Hindustan Computers Limited is an Indian multinational IT services and consultancy firm based in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. It is a modern computing pioneer with numerous firsts to its name, including the creation of the 8-bit microprocessor-based computer in 1978, considerably ahead of its global competitors. Today, the HCL organization has a presence in a variety of industries, including technology, healthcare, and workforce management solutions, and is made up of three subsidiaries.

Background

It was founded in 1976 as one of India's first IT firms. The company was founded by a group of six engineers, all of whom were previous workers of Delhi Cloth & General Mills, and was directed by Shiv Nadar.

The Group has established its first three subsidiaries:

  • HCL Technologies Inc.
  • HCL Information Systems
  • HCL Healthcare Services

Although the company has attempted to remain hardware-focused, software and services are the primary focus of HCL Technologies. HCL Overseas Limited, a provider of technology development services, was founded in November 1991. It began operations after receiving the certificate of establishment of business on February 10, 1992. Two years later, in July 1994, the firm name was changed to HCL Consulting Limited, then in October 1999, to HCL Technologies Limited.

HCL TalentCare is HCL Corporation's fourth and most recent initiative.

Development

It Enterprises made $1,1.48 billion in sales in 2022. The company's revenue from operations during the fourth quarter of fiscal year 22 is $2.9 billion. HCL employs around 208,877 people in 52 countries.

On November 10, 1999, the firm went public with the issuance of 1.42 crore shares at Rs4 apiece.

In the year 2000, the company established an offshore development center for KLA-Tencor Corporation in Chennai, India.

It purchased Gulf Computers Inc. in 2002. They bought a few IBM items selectively on July 1, 2019. HCL Technologies acquired complete control of BigFix, AppScan, Commerce, Connections, Digital Experience, Notes Domino, and Unica in R&D, sales, delivery, marketing, and support. It stated on June 16, 2020, that it had begun operations in Sri Lanka. Within the first 18 months of operation, the company created 1,500 jobs in the country.

Subsidiaries and Acquisitions

It is currently a subsidiary of Vamasundari via a network of intermediaries. Shiv Nadar owns Vamasundari (Delhi), which in turn owns the majority of the HCL group's firms.

Between 1991 and 1999, the company expanded its software development capabilities to the United States, Europe, and Asia. Actian, situated in the United States, was purchased for $330 million by HCL Technologies and Sumeru Equity Partners in July 2018.

July 23, 2015, saw the announcement of a joint venture agreement between CSC and HCL Technologies to establish Celeriti FinTech, a financial software and services company.

In October 2017, IBM formed a strategic relationship with HCL Technologies, with the latter taking over development of IBM Lotus Software's collaboration tools Notes, Domino, Sametime, and Verse.

HCL Technologies said in May 2018 that it had partnered with Transportation Alliance (BITA), a group known for bringing blockchain into the transportation industry, to integrate blockchain.

It is now present in 52 countries, with its headquarters in Noida, India.

Computers

HCL Technologies, which offered software services, was split out as a distinct entity on November 12, 1991.

Infosystems

With a market valuation of Rs 251.85 crore, HCL Infosystems is a small-cap business that works in the IT-hardware industry. It is a distribution and system integration company. It facilitates the delivery of consumer goods, mobility, and technology. Founded in 1976, this division of HCL makes calculators.

An alliance for strategic distribution between HCL Infosystems and PC manufacturer Dell was launched in June 2015. The company reported consolidated sales of Rs 105.69 crore for the quarter that ended on June 30, 2020, a decrease of 53.59% from the previous quarter. Sales of Rs 227.71 crore were lower than the same quarter's sales of Rs 680.87 crore the previous year by 84.48%. For the most recent quarter, the company declared net profit after tax of Rs 36.86 crore.
